The Oil and Gas Industry Suffers from Major Diversity Problems in the Executive Suite

-
As if the oil and gas industry needed more problems – Fortune Magazine today published an article criticizing the industry for its lack of diversity in the executive suite.  According to the article, the energy industry is one of the least diverse industries -  even worse than tech.  The acknowledge difficulties in bringing woman into the industry, especially given the dangerous rigs, “man camps” and fracking controversy.  According to LinkedIn, woman make up just 27% of all oil and gas industry profiles, the lowest of any industry examined (woman occupy 60% of seats in healthcare).  At the board level – it is even worse.  Woman occupy just 14% of the seats in the top 200 utility companies world-wide, according to Ernst and Young.  At April Now – we would like to see proactive programmes supporting woman in the oil and gas business.  It’s time to hold their feet-to-the-fire and get more woman into the executive suite.
