WOMEN GET HALF, SAYS NATIONAL FILM BOARD OF CANADA



The NFBC isn’t playing around when it comes to gender parity: soon, half of its films will be directed by women, whose projects will also get half of its production budget. 

Female presence behind the camera is dismal, ultimately pointing to the lack of strong female narratives on film. I wish, though, that there were mention of more than just storylines as the focus of ‘the cause’. I mean, are there not some other distinct challenges preventing the progress of women filmmakers that are being ignored? That Bechdel test – the article explains - is a little much though…
