Woman in the UK currently earn 20% less than men for equivalent work. This is not only annoying but
illegal, since the passage of the 1970 Equal Pay Act. In an attempt to close the gender pay gap,
UK companies with more than 250 staff may soon be forced to disclose pay for
male and female employees to the government, and to disclose their gender pay
gap for public consumption. At April Now
– we believe better disclosure could be just the tonic industry requires, as it
will arm woman with the information they require to re-negotiate their pay
packets, and could shame laggards into action.
We look forward to the new rules.
