At
April Now, we love to help our readers with a good career strategy. And today, the Globe and Mail highlighted a
trend that made us feel opportunistic.
Apparently, Tech giants like Google are in hot pursuit of female
talent. Ray Sharma, founder of Extreme
Venture Partners, a Toronto-based VC fund, says he has seen it first hand – and
that he has already lost staff to Google when the enormous technology recruited
his employee by doubling her pay. Mr.
Sharma then went on to complain about what he perceives as a “net zero” impact
on the tech-ecosystem as large companies “buy their way out of their own
diversity problems.” It seems Mr. Sharma
doesn’t believe in the free market.
Except when he does. At April
Now, we see only opportunity in this trend, and we hope every female staffer
can be so lucky as to double their pay as tech giants pursue their diversity
metrics. Go for it ladies. Go get that higher offer. Take it, or create a bidding war with your
existing employer. And don’t forget to
negotiate other beneficial terms into your employment agreement – such as
guaranteed minimum severance terms. You
know Mr. Sharma would do it if he could.
