According to Forbes Magazine, interview
attire has changed in recent years. The
dot-com era ushered in an era of casual dress, but the recent recession has
reversed the trend and ushered in an era of formal dress as candidates strive
to differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive job market. Furthermore, interview attire is now seen as
a test of the candidate’s familiarity of the company and industry. The article offers few great tips on how to
dress for your next interview: (1) appropriate attire depends on the industry
and geographic location, (2) research the company and industry on the internet
before the interview, (3) when in doubt, err on the side of caution and
slightly overdress (you can then laugh it off during the interview, and point
out that you overdressed as you are very enthusiastic about the opportunity….). And remember “Perception is reality”. Manage
it. Own it. And win!
