Take it from thefirst African-American woman to head a Fortune 500 Company: the keys to
success? “Be selfish sometimes” and “find a good (older) husband”. These cheeky
sounding one-liners are two of five tidbits of wisdom that Ursula Burns, Xerox
Corp CEO, has for young, ambitious women. We understand the brow lifting these
tips may elicit at first, but click the link and read on, Ladies. Burns’
well-rounded approach to accomplishing career goals tells us it’s okay to put
ourselves first, and to recognize that in life – most of the time - it’s just
not that serious.
April Now was originally formed as a networking group for five professional woman in Toronto. Word spread, and our core group quickly grew. We then launched a blog and Twitter feed. Now, we offer consulting services to Canadian public companies, addressing diversity and equality in the workplace, especially at the executive and board levels.

MAYER SAYS ‘WORK@HOME’ AIN’T WORKING
Yahoo’s CEO
Marissa Mayer is putting a stop to its @home workers. Why? Because, as the article says, she is “no fool”. This swift overhaul comes 7 months in to her
post, and it can’t be a far stretch to suggest she’s identified the difference
in productivity between the employees that work at work and those that, well, don’t. Yes, in support of Mayer’s
naysayers, there are cultural issues and implications of distrust to consider.
But let’s be real: if something is broke – ie. the efficiency of staff at a
slacking Silicone Valley giant – you better fix it. We say “Good on Mayer” for
taking a bold step to haul her company back on track.
