SURPRISE: YAHOO’S NEW CHIEF IS…..

#Shocked. Look whoYahoo just named as their CEO: Marissa Mayer, aka veteran exec at its major rival (see: Google). Her task to exponentially turn things around for the unstable web portal is daunting, to say the least. But her engineering background and innovative foresight make her a smart choice to take on the mercurial world of the Internet. Slightly off-topic, though: wonder how Google’s Larry Page took the news? You know, sharing the same title with someone who never got a shot on his senior leadership team, and all….

YAHOO’S CEO: TECH’S NEW FEMALE POWER?

Marissa Mayer’s CV has some serious muscle. Now she’s one of the youngest CEOs among the world’s mega-companies; she’s officially reached the upper echelon of most powerful women in her industry; and she’s already surpassed her contemporaries with a coveted engineering background. Ironic enough, she won’t be entertaining a ‘women-in-tech’ dialogue anytime soon - probably to cool any notion that she’s here to be saviour of womankind? Well, no ‘Saviour” title needed. But “Superwoman’? Sure, why not!

KLEINER PERKINS CAUFIELD AND BYERS HIT WITH SEXUAL HARASSMENT SUIT

KPCB investment partner Ellen Pao is alleging sexual harassment by former colleague Ajit Nazre, and subsequent gender discrimination and retaliation. And she has backup. And she’s naming names. High-profile ones. In fact this Tech Crunch piece leaves nothing of her complaint to the imagination, posting all of the 16 pages for the world to see.

Meanwhile, the legendary KPCB – armed with its notoriety for hiring and supporting women partners - plans to fight, tooth and nail, what they consider to be baseless allegations.

Big surprise, it’s not a cut and dry case. They never are. They’re messy, can culminate in serious backlash for the victim and - worst of all – no matter the outcome, they can compound issues for women entering these professional positions. We obviously lead a charge for females in the corporate industries and know it’s easy to say that this case is “so typical”…but we don’t know the full story yet. We do know that these suits don’t just come out of nowhere, and we’re anxiously awaiting the verdict.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! DRESS FOR SUCCESS IN THE BRONX

“Dress for Success” just opened their Bronx store with a fashion show, and hooked up unemployed women with some chic, donated threads. Talk about form and function- this not-for-profit organization is doing something great. We all know to look our best for job interviews; but when money is always low and you need work, “looking your best” is not that easy. What a clever way to connect fashion and giving back!
